I Would Rather Go Hungry Than Eat Filipino Street Food Again! REALLY?!

filipino_street_food

I was on Facebook the other day, scrolling down my newsfeed, then i suddenly bumped into this blog article by Agness Walewinder, its entitled, “I would rather go hungry than eat Filipino street food again!”. The title sounds so offensive I don’t want to click on it because I was thinking maybe the title was intentionally made that offensive to attract Filipino readers. But I’m curious… and offended, I had to click on it and read it what it’s all about.

Agness and her bestfriend Cez run the travel website etramping.com. They write about traveling to different countries and how to live each day spending under $25 of their daily food budget.

I have nothing against her blog, that’s her opinion. But since she have $25 dollars to spend, she should’ve chosen a nicer restaurant. She should’ve done some research first and googled restaurants on the place she’s going to visit so she can eat nicer cheap food, enjoy her travel experience without spending too much.

To Agness:

You travel to see beautiful places and make good memories right? All I’m saying is that, you want to enjoy traveling, make you’re $25 dollar budget count. You should do your research first, before you travel.

And your blog title is so mean.

I.dont.like.it.

I do admire your honesty but please be considerate, be fair on your judgments. Just like Nathan Allen said on his travel blog “I dreamed of this” about your post, “Your short stay is exactly why I (and many others) hope you will be more careful with the “impressions” that you put out into the world in the future. You may be doing a real disservice to a country and a culture that has a lot to offer international travelers – and a country that could surely use the money generated by tourism. “

I know you’ve been blogging since 2011 and you have a high web ranking than Nathan, but really.. you should take some blogging advice from Nathan Allen. You should read his blog, you can learn from him.

Even renowned American chef, author and TV personality Anthony Bourdain have nothing against Filipino cuisine, he even enjoyed eating street foods when he visited Philippines.

You.just.have.to.find.a.good.restaurant.

I hope you give Filipino food another chance. Visit Philippines again. Goodluck  to you.

  1. She actually changed the title to “street food”. The title was originally just “Filipino food” which attracted more readers. I think that she assumed all Asian countries are the same in terms of finding food etc.

I read that offensive blog post too, and I couldn’t help rolling my eyes at her ignorance. She did research, eh? I mean seriously, you’d ask for local longganisa at 7-11 and then complain that you’re given a hotdog? WTF right? If she was not seriously misinformed (even at least about that) then I don’t know what to think of her.
